The City Government of Victorias had its 1st Mayor Wantan Palanca Invitational Triathlon last Sept. 25.

The sports event, spearheaded by City Mayor Francis Frederick Palanca, who also participated in triathlon, is for the benefit of the environmental conservation and protection of the Malogo River and Gawahon Eco Park and help support the medical treatment of Zoe Gwyneth Dela Peña.

Mayor Palanca thanked the organizing team, the participants and everyone for their cooperation as he shared his plans of developing Malogo River into a tourist destination looking forward to a duathlon event at Gawahon Eco-Park in December and another triathlon challenge for next year.

Vice Mayor Jerry Jover and City councilors graced the event where more than 80 triathletes from all over Negros and Visayas joined the challenge.

The participants covered 1.5 km. swim, 60 km. bike and 12 km. run Over Distance with male and female open categories.

Winners received P12,000 for first place; P8,000 for second place; and P5,000 for third place with trophies.

Top three winners from the different age groups under the said category namely 50 and above; 40-49; 30-39; 20-29; and 19-under also received cash prizes and trophies.

The relay open category triathletes won P15, 000 for first place while second and third place received P12, 000 and P10, 000, respectively
Meanwhile, for the Sprint Distance covering 750 m. swim, 20 km. bike and 5 km. run, top three winners for the male and female open categories and 49 and below and 50 and above age groups also received cash and trophies.

The starting point was at the Malogo River going to EB Magalona, Silay and Manapla with finish line at the Victorias City Public Plaza where everyone converged for the awarding ceremony hosted by Miss Philippines Earth 2009/Miss Earth Air 2009 Sandra Seifert with Lin-ay Sang Negros 2016 Alyssa Louise Erika Jimenea and Radio DJ at Magic 106.3 Bacolod Phat Mike Ballados.

Early on the same day, a 5 km. and 12 km. run that is free of registration with bibs and prizes also took place.

The Race Director and Sports Tourism Consultant of the City is Coach Frunklin Echevarria and was the one who trained and prepared.
