Twenty six members of Barangay Agri-Tech Volunteers (BRAVO) attended a training on Organic Agriculture Updates last April 22 to 24 facilitated by the City Agriculture Office. The training enabled the participants to know the present efforts undertaken by the City Government. Different resource speakers shared the latest organic agriculture technologies used by organic practitioners in Negros. One of the technologies presented was the Natural Farming System (NFS) which highly recommends the use of a powerful Bio-fertilizer known as IMO-5 (similar with Bokashi) together with production and use of concoctions. Another important topic discussed during the training was the Vermi-composting technology which recommends the use of vermi-cast and vermi-tea along with other organic farm inputs. The City’s ExecutiveLegislative Agenda (ELA) was also tackled by City Planning and Development Officer Evangeline Alo while the Agri-Eco Tourism program was discussed by the City’s Tourism Officer-Designate Rica Calseña. BRAVO is composed of Barangay Kagawads coming from 26 Barangays of the City who are designated as Committee Chairmen on Agriculture and Livelihood. They will assist in the City’s implementation and monitoring of agriculture and livelihood projects to ensure success and progress or “Sa Pag-asenso sang Victoriahanons” in their respective barangays. Last June 18, BRAVO officers were formally inducted by Mayor Francis Frederick Palanca and were lauded for taking the challenge of bringing development to the agriculture and fishery sectors of the City.
