As part of the mitigating efforts of the City to minimize the damaging effects of La Niña phenomenon hitting the country toward the last quarter of the year, Victorias City conducted an information campaign last Sept. 6. The City’s Barangay Captains and kagawads who are chairmen on disaster preparedness were invited to the activity held at Marjhun’s Restaurant and Snack Bar.
Negros Island Region Office of the Civil Defense Regional Director Blanche Gobenciong gave presentations on the Philippines Disaster Risk Profile; Negros Occidental’s Hazard Susceptibility; the Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Framework; and the 6-Step Process in Disaster Preparedness Planning. Mayor Francis Frederick Palanca graced the activity, congratulated the organizers and showed his full support in preparing Victorias for any disaster especially La Niña.
The City deemed it necessary to have the activity because it belongs to the top 5 LGUs with high risk and flood prone areas in Negros Occidental based on the study and survey conducted by the Province.
The City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office in coordination with the City Communication and Information Office spearheaded the activity.
