Fifteen high breed gilts were dispersed to Victorias City Farmers and to the Members of Victorias City Alliance of Tricycle Operators and Drivers’ Association (VCATODA) last Aug. 28.

The distribution, under the Victorias City Swine Genetic Improvement Program, was initiated by the City Veterinary Office headed Dr. John Michael Cabuguason with the support from Victorias City Mayor Francis Frederick Palanca and Committee Chair on Agriculture Councilor Abelardo “JunB” Bantug III.

Councilor Derek Palanca and Chief of Staff to the Mayor Danilo De Asis, Jr. gave their message of encouragement for the beneficiaries to take on their responsibilities as a sign of acknowledgement of the opportunity given to them.

Both Palanca and De Asis then expressed their support to the program’s objectives — (1) to provide livelihood to Victorias backyard swine raisers, (2) to enhance the Swine Industry of the City by providing genetically superior gilts, and (3) to extend technical services by adapting good husbandry practices and trends such as artificial insemination (AI) techonology.

Dr. Cabuguason also emphasized that this is not the end of partnership of the City Veterinary Office and backyard swine raisers; support such as technical services will be provided even after the turnover event to ensure the program’s success.

Apart from the gilts with a book value of P36,000.00 each, the beneficiaries also received one sack of feeds, vitamins, anthelmintic drugs, and iron and metabolic stimulant supplements for their livestock sponsored by Pilmico.
