BARANGAY VI-A BRIEF HISTORY

Villa Miranda, now known as Barangay VI-A, was once part of Barangay VI, Salvacion, Victorias City until sometime of 1988, it decided to separate from its mother barangay.

Barangay VI-A is located at the shoreline of Victorias City; it is 1.5 kilometre away from the City proper of Victorias. It has a land area of 33.7 hectares wherein 22.7 hectares was declared as residential for the 7,170 household living in the area as proclaimed by Presidential Proclamation RA 10023 while 16 hectares was a mangrove area reserved.

After its separation from its mother barangay, a set of Barangay Officials was installed under Punong Barangay Angel A. Canlas & his Seven Sangguniang Barangay Member. Barangay VI-A was able to separate from barangay VI, Salvacion through the joint effort of its constituent compound of 90% residents who depend their way of living through fishing while 10% were employed by the different offices at the city and the Victorias Milling Company and in some neighbouring towns/municipalities.

Punong Barangay Angel A. Canlas ended his term of office and Eduardo Porras Sr. Succeeded him but only for a shorty period of time for he passed away after a month of his succession. It was then succeeded by his first Sangguniang Barangay Member; the late Hon. Eliseo Punzalan Sr., who served for almost seventeen (17) years Hon. Jose D. Dignadice succeeded him and served for fourteen (14) years: 5 years as Sangguniang Barangay Member, and (3) three terms or (9) years as Punong Barangay.

As of present, the successor of Barangay VI-A, is Hon. Punong Barangay Anna Mae Brillantes Claro, the only woman Punong Barangay who would and could bring Barangay VI-A to the real sense of the word “ASENSO” for she is a woman of the world.
